Trauma is neither a disease nor a disorder but is rather an injury caused by fright, helplessness and loss.  By enlisting the wisdom of the living sensing body and engaging our innate capacity to self-regulate high states of arousal and intense emotions, trauma can be transformed.

In this Webinar, Dr. Levine will draw on more than 40 years as a body oriented clinician, parallel studies of stress, biology and recent developments in the neurosciences. He will describe how it is still possible to live life robustly with pleasure and creativity in the face of the most painful assaults to our humanity, as well as in face of the deceptively trivial ones.  He will share an evolutionary understanding of the source of trauma to a spiritual dimension of how we as human beings can be strengthened by traumatic healing. This journey unfolds–if we learn to listen to the “unspoken voice of the body.”

Learning Objectives:

  1. To recognize the biological and naturalistic roots of trauma and their implications for treatment
  2. To explain how sensate awareness is an important vehicle for regulating high arousal states and intense emotions in transforming trauma
  3. To describe the relationship between developmental issues, unresolved trauma and the formation of depression, psychoses and other worldwide issues
