Most people at some point in life are faced with the question: “Am I living the life I truly desire?” “Who am I really?” “What gives my life meaning?” Answering these questions is key to creating one’s own  unique existence. These questions can be a cornerstone of effective therapy and essential to a person’s personal development. What each person must ask themselves, once they’ve answered these questions is, “Do my actions match my values? How much is how I’m living about what I want and how much is it based on influences from my past?”

Differentiation refers to the challenge that all people face in striving to develop a sense of themselves as autonomous individuals. An individual’s identity is continually affected by interpersonal experiences that are either favorable or damaging to the development of his or her personality. In order for people to live their own lives and fulfill their destiny, they must differentiate from destructive family and societal influences. In this Webinar, individuals and therapists will learn an innovative approach to differentiation and the steps involved in creating lasting and fulfilling change.

Steps include:

1. Breaking with “critical inner voices” toward self and others.
2. Altering the negative personality traits that represent an incorporation of the aversive traits of one’s parents.
3. Identifying and letting go of patterns of defense formed as an adaptation to painful events in one’s childhood.
4. Developing one’s own values, ideals, and beliefs rather than automatically accepting the beliefs of others.
